The greatest gift is to impart knowledge. And when we get to do so with young people and help them unleash their potential, it is magic!

Teaching is a noble profession. The arts are what make us truly human. How fortunate to combine both in a career and partnership.

Kathi Grau holds her Master's in directing from Roosevelt University's College of Performing Arts in Chicago. has been an educator and a professional actor since the 80's. She was the drama director at Berkeley Preparatory school for the past 25 years and developed its drama, dance, and film making programs. As an actor and director, Kathi worked in Tampa Bay with The Playmakers, The Tampa Players, Stageworks, the Bokononist Players, and American Stage. She was the co-founder and artistic director of Tampa's premier children's theater company TA-DA (Tampa Alliance of Dramatic Arts) and an original co-founder of Tampa's wild and wonderful festival, GUAVAWEEN. Many know her alter ego, Mama Guava, from her appearances on TV, radio, and at Guavaween. Kathi was the recipient of a fellowship play writing grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs where she developed, produced, and directed I'd Rather Grow Down, a play helping children deal with everyday and serious problems, which toured the state for five years. Her students have had successes in all areas of professional arts, including Broadway, film, television, designing, producing, directing, and acting.  

Kathi is also a visual artist and set designer.  Her BA degree was in Art with a concentration in painting.  Her alma mater was William Woods University in Fulton, MIssouri.  Her work can be seen in shops and homes in St. Petersburg and around the country.  Her fanciful artwork, PaintographyArt, digital renderings of her photographs, can be seen in several of the pages on this site.   

 

Bruce Lebaron has been an educator, professional violinist, and conductor of opera and symphony since the 70's. After attending Potsdam, S.U.N.Y., Bruce taught in New York State and played first violin with the Albany Symphony. Bruce received an NDEA Title 4 Fellowship and completed his doctorate in music education at the University of Florida. Bruce taught in the Alachua County public schools and came to Tampa to teach at USF and conduct its orchestra. In 1983, Bruce joined Berkeley Preparatory School and during his 32 year tenure, served as educator, chair of the Arts, and curriculum planner, developing the comprehensive music and drama tech programs. Serving young artists, Bruce has conducted The Alachua, Pinellas, and Hillsborough County Youth Orchestras. He has also served as conductor for the St. Petersburg Opera Company, the Treasure Coast Opera, and founded the popular Suncoast Pops Orchestra. Bruce ("Doc") has been the concert master under Robert Shaw and Aaron Copland and played for 30 years as principal second violin under Maestro Anton Coppola.

Bruce was the music director for the Playmakers of Ybor City. While conducting Stop the World, I Want to Get Off, he met and married Kathi Grau, who starred in the show. Their 28 years of marriage has been a partnership of education and production.
